Havening Touch
Havening Techniques®: A Powerful Method for Emotional Processing
Sometimes we unconsciously carry memories and emotions that affect our daily functioning. Stressful or traumatic experiences can become lodged in our brains and result in anxiety, panic, stress, or other emotional blockages. Havening Techniques® is an innovative method specifically designed to release these limiting emotions and memories. This is done naturally and gently, using touch and neuroscientific principles.
What is Havening Techniques®?
Havening Techniques® is a therapeutic method aimed at changing certain connections in the brain. The goal is to reduce or even completely eliminate the negative effects of traumatic or stressful memories. This method is based on scientific insights into how our brain stores and processes memories. What makes Havening unique is that it works not only on a psychological level but also produces physiological changes.
At the heart of this technique is Havening Touch®, a gentle form of touch applied to the face, arms, and hands. This stimulates the brain in a way that helps release negative emotional associations. This touch produces delta waves in the brain. These specific brain waves are associated with deep relaxation and healing and help negative experiences lose their emotional charge.
How does a Havening session work?
A session typically lasts an hour and is conducted under my guidance. This can be done either in my office or online via video call, making Havening accessible to everyone, regardless of location or mobility. During the session:
- Identify the problem: We start by identifying the specific experience or emotion you want to process.
- Performing the Havening Touch®: You apply the touches to your face, arms and hands yourself, while I guide you.
- Do I use additional techniques? We combine Havening with positive visualizations, breathing exercises, or affirmations to enhance the effect.
- Experience your relief: Clients often feel an immediate change; a sense of relaxation, relief, and inner peace.
The number of sessions required varies by individual and the nature of the problem. Some experience significant improvement after just one session, while others require multiple sessions for deeper healing.
For which complaints is Havening suitable?
Havening is particularly effective for a wide range of complaints and can be a valuable method for both emotional and physical issues. Some examples include:
- Anxiety disorders and panic attacks: Calming the amygdala, the part of the brain that regulates fear and stress, can significantly reduce feelings of anxiety.
- Phobias: Whether it's a fear of heights, social anxiety, or a fear of flying, Havening can neutralize the emotional response underlying the phobia.
- Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD): Traumatic memories can be deeply ingrained in the brain. Havening helps weaken and eventually remove the emotional charge of these memories.
- Negative childhood memories: The impact of negative childhood experiences can manifest as self-confidence issues or emotional blockages. Havening helps break through this influence.
- Chronic stress and burnout: Havening can reduce the impact of long-term stress and help you regain peace and balance.
- Emotional blocks and limiting beliefs: Sometimes we feel held back by negative thoughts about ourselves. Havening can help break these patterns and create a more positive self-image.
- Chronic pain: Many forms of chronic pain have an emotional component. Havening can help release the emotional roots of pain, bringing relief.
- Sleep problems: Stress and negative thoughts can disrupt sleep. Havening can calm the nervous system and contribute to deeper, more restorative sleep.
How does Havening work in the brain?
Havening is based on insights from neuroscience. When we experience a traumatic or stressful event, certain connections in the brain are strengthened. The amygdala, the part of the brain involved in emotional responses, plays a central role in this.
Applying Havening Touch® activates delta waves in the brain. These brainwaves help neutralize the emotional charge of memories and rewrite the connections in the brain. This means you still have the memory, but it no longer has a negative emotional impact. The brain essentially learns that the threat has passed, reducing or eliminating the stress response.
Why is Havening so effective?
What makes Havening unique is that it not only works on a cognitive level (like talking about a problem) but also directly affects the nervous system. This makes it a powerful method for people who struggle to talk about their trauma or fears, or who have previously experienced little success with other therapies.
Furthermore, Havening is a gentle and natural method. No medications or intensive exposure methods are used, making it safe and accessible to almost everyone. Because the technique is easy to learn, clients can often use Havening themselves as a tool in their daily lives after just a few sessions.
